New Insight on Old-School Teaching Tools
Small pieces of chalk are excellent for developing the pincer grasp needed for writing. The texture of chalk and sensation of writing on a chalkboard provides a unique sensory experience, which is totally different from pencil or crayon. The best part is, kids of all ages love it! Just make sure to closely supervise young children while using the small pieces. I use a research-based program called Handwriting Without Tears, which includes a special method with the chalkboard called "Wet, Dry, Try."
